There are toy collections owned by those who love certain toys or are looking for an investment. If you want your own collection, there are some things to know before you start your journey. It is a process that may start slow or may start with a bang; be knowledgeable and be prepared.
 
Collecting toys doesn't sound like it would require any special skills, but to have quality toy collections, you do need to have the passion to explore and investigate and to not be disappointed if you find that the toy you've been searching for isn't authentic. True collectors do not play with their toys; they are encased in glass or in a special case and are enjoyed by looking at them.
 
If the collections are played with, the value of the toys decreases. Many toys, if in boxes, are not opened as opening the box would drastically lower the value of the toy.  The collector enjoys having the toys and knowing that the enjoyment will last for future generations also brings a type of fulfillment.
 
Action Figures
 
Probably the most collected 'figures' is the Barbie Doll which was targeted to girls. If you are not interested in these particular figures, there are plenty of action figures you can chose to collect. Originally available in the 1940's, the girls were ecstatic about their dolls and couldn't get enough of them. Over the years, the boys wanted something to play with like the girls had but it had to be something that was just for boys. 
 
When the toy manufacturers realized the boys wanted something, they had no idea what to create so they looked to the culture of that era. At that time, what was being played on the big screen and on television as well as the comic books published is where their ideas came from.  It took some innovative design and technology, but the toy collections for the boys was initiated.
 
The action figures of that time all had the same body and then were painted and clothed to look different. Today, the figures are individually shaped to look like the actual character. Of course with the launch of the first spaceship into space, there were a number of other action figures that were created and were very successful then and even today.
