Who didn't love toy guns when they were kids? They gave kids hours of fun outdoors in any season day or night. Collecting this type of toy is no different than any other toy. Many of the original's that your father or his father may have played with are extremely rare and when is found, in decent condition, it is very exciting for a collector.
 
If you have guns and would like to buy and/or trade there are collectors and gun enthusiasts who may be looking for what you have. Whether you are collecting action figures or Barbie's, you will inevitably meet other toy gun collectors. These are the people who become your friends and contacts. They have their own contacts and special places they like to look. It's like the Internet; it's a huge network supplying information to everyone who is looking for it.
 
How to begin
 
Starting out may seem overwhelming because you may not know where to start looking for toy guns or what you should actually be looking for. Any good collection will begin with a piece that you may already have or that you know something about. The toy should also be something that interests you.
 
Consider which toy guns that you like the most or which style you would like to have in your collection. Do you like wooden ones? Would you prefer ones that are replicas of actual guns? What about guns that are inspired by science fiction or by the military? Your options are endless as the collection can be any number or kind that you want it to include. You may also want to consider if you will want to collect any accessories that may have been available as well.
 
The wild wild west is a very popular theme to collect. There are a number of guns as well as accessories available. These unique toy guns will be worn, slim as well as polished. The colors will be black, gold or silver and the belt straps and holsters will typically be a faux-leather.
 
Keep in mind that guns are not just pistols or revolvers; there are the rifles too. Then you can be more detail orientated and search for short barrel or long barrel; maybe you want to have guns that only shoot a certain caliber. Your collection will grow over time and will be either hand guns and rifles or a good mixture of both. Either way, it will be a great looking collection.
 
Themes in collections
 
There are three gun categories that can be included or divided within your collection. These are the pistols, the rifles and also the high powered firearms. Each one can be a unique collection by itself or when mixed together.
 
The widest selection will be found in the pistol category and many were made from actual guns from the 1970's to current. Rifles will offer great details and many replicas at first sight can be misleading as you may think it's the real deal when it's actually a toy. The high powered guns are rarer than pistols and rifles; however, they are available and can be found in specialty shops as well as the Internet.
 
Whether you collect for fun or to enhance a current collection, your collection can be made of up any number of combinations as long as you like the toy. Collecting toy guns is fun and will take you on adventures that you may not find otherwise.
